Our Clinic
What makes our clinic unique?
Every individual experiences life in a unique way, whether in sickness or in health. As such, we believe patient care should be tailored to each individual’s specific needs.
To do this, we first develop a clear understanding of each patient’s unique health concerns and align our treatment strategies accordingly. We pay special care to any additional areas of concern and take steps to make each patient feel as comfortable as possible. Patient care is our top priority, and we believe education is a key factor in individual success. Not only do we provide information on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, but we also offer nutritional counseling, herbal counseling, and lifestyle recommendations at no additional cost—the essential elements for sound holistic medicine.
Simply put, we want you to feel your best.

Pain Management
Living with pain can significantly affect one’s quality of life. Our clinic specializes in mitigating these negative consequences by providing comprehensive treatment programs that address not only pain but the underlying pathologies as well.
To begin healing, acupuncturists first pinpoint the locations of pain, muscle imbalances, and soft tissue lesions. Then, specific acupuncture points are used to correct overactive or inhibited muscle fibers. By using these acupuncture points, trigger points, and motor points, acupuncturists are able to “reset” the affected muscle spindle fibers. As a result, the body learns to maintain balance between opposing muscle groups while retaining muscle strength and tone.
Although no two injuries are alike, these basic principles are adapted and modified to meet the individual patient’s needs. The Louisville-Boulder area is an active community, and our sports medicine program is geared at returning athletes to their peak level performance, whether as a weekend jogger or a competitive triathlete. Boulder also has a thriving tech industry, and we understand the pain associated with long hours in front of a computer. Our repetitive stress programs alleviate pain from strained posture, lack of mobility, and repeated movements.
Unfortunately, living with pain can lead to a number of other ailments. Our clinic addresses not only pain but also concurrent issues, such as poor sleep, fatigue, stress, anxiety, unwanted weight fluctuations, and even addiction.

Sleep Improvement
Sleep disorders occur when difficulties and complications interfere with the quality and length of sleep. One reason why it is so important to consistently have a proper night's sleep is because without it other medical issues may worsen. Even a single restless night can leave one feeling mentally, emotionally and physically exhausted. Some of the most common sleep disorders that respond well to acupuncture treatment are insomnia, sleep apnea, jet lag disorder, snoring, night terrors, narcolepsy and restless leg syndrome.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the cycles of sleeping and waking demonstrate the dynamic interplay of yin and yang forces. Yin qualities include contraction, cold, inactivity and nighttime. Yang qualities are represented by expansion, heat, activity and daytime. During sleep and states of relaxation, yin exercises the dominant force. After yin energy has refreshed the body and mind, it is then time for yang energy to increase. When yang springs into action, it is now possible to wake up restored and ready for the day.
One way in which a TCM practitioner may help a patient regain control of their sleep is by balancing the body's internal forces of yin and yang through the use of acupuncture. For example, if a disharmony is discovered that manifests as an overabundance of yang energy, it would be appropriate to decrease yang and increase yin. This can help alleviate symptoms of certain sleep disorders, such as insomnia.

Stress Relief
Stress is a normal part of life that enables us to get things done. Left unmanaged, however, stress can lead to emotional, psychological, and even physical problems. Stress causes a disruption in the flow of vital energy, or Qi, through the body. This can disrupt the immune system and cause new problems, or it may aggravate already troublesome health conditions and lead to more serious illnesses in the future.
Stressful situations that last long periods of time can create an ongoing low-level stress that puts continual pressure on the nervous system and can cause the overproduction of stress hormones such as cortisol. The extra stress hormones sustained over an extended period of time may wear out the body's reserves, leading to fatigue, depression, a weakened immune system, and a host of serious physical and psychological ailments.
According to Oriental medicine, stress, frustration and unresolved anger can play an important part in throwing the immune system off and allowing pathogens to affect the body. Through acupuncture, these energy blockages can be addressed. Acupuncture points can help energy flow smoothly and alleviate not only the symptoms of stress and anxiety, but the stress and anxiety itself. Acupuncture improves circulation of blood throughout the body, which oxygenates the tissues and cycles out stress hormones like cortisol and other waste chemicals. The calming nature of acupuncture also decreases heart rate, lowers blood pressure and relaxes the muscles.
